The main advantage of the Universal Access Points is the user-selectable choice of Extreme’s flagship Wi-Fi operating systems, which allows them to be deployed across both campus and distributed environments and across on-premises and cloud-management. User can choose the OS at start-up or at a later stage and the AP will assume the features and capabilities of the chosen OS – either WiNG or IQ Engine.
In the latter case, the device automatically connects to ExtremeCloud IQ to find its persona. The pre-provisioned OS persona is then remotely enabled on the access point, eliminating the need for manual selection. User may choose to stay in the cloud or manage the device locally at any given moment.
